Groundcovers for Raleigh Landscaping

January 31, 2013

Groundcovers and Your Raleigh Landscaping

You may know that groundcovers have many benefits for your Raleigh Landscaping. But did you know that they can provide all of the following specific benefits: controlling erosion, retaining moisture, providing a habitat for bees and butterflies, resilient, low maintenance, help control weeds, and generally pest and disease resistant. Wow, that is quite a list, isn’t it?

Groundcovers can help pull together a planting plan by providing a common theme. For example, a single type of groundcover can provide a common theme amongst several different types of shrubs and plantings. This can help promote visual interest, while maintaining a commonality throughout your Raleigh landscaping.

Commonly, groundcovers are thought of as low-growing plants such as pachysandra or vinca. However, there are several other options for groundcovers that are not quite as low growing. These alternative options for groundcovers still provide the same low maintenance that the more common covers boast. They also help provide traffic barriers, can act as hedging material or just act as a visual guide toward an entry. Non-traditional groundcovers also help soften hardscapes such as walks, steps, and driveways.

Now that you have heard all about how great groundcovers are, here are a couple to get you started:
